Special diagnostics
The SMI carries out diagnostics of unique nature, so called special diagnostics. The charge for these tests must fully cover the costs. In addition, the institute performs (often free of charge) epidemiological typings and subtypings of bacteria, viruses and parasites.
The special diagnostics are limited to such tests and methods that are not performed in other Swedish laboratories. Either due to small volumes or that specific biosafety measures are required. Special diagnostics, reference studies and epidemiological typings are all important parts of an efficient communicable disease control.
