Internationella guidelines
Världshälsoorganisationen (WHO) arbetar aktivt för att etablera och förstärka biosäkerhetskulturen från ett världsomfattande perspektiv. Initiativen från WHO har lett till vägledande skrifter som kan användas som verktyg för hantering av biorisker inom laboratorieverksamheter.
Lagstiftning i många europeiska länder är idag i stor utsträckning baserade på EU-direktiven 2000/54/EC (mikrobiologiska arbetsmiljörisker) och 98/81/EC (arbete med genetiskt modifierade mikroorganismer, GMM).
Den nyligen publicerade CWA 15793:2008 - Laboratory biorisk management standard är en internationell standard som syftar till att öka medvetenheten om biosäkerhet och bioskydd genom att ge vägledning inom de områden som krävs för ett fungerande biosäkerhets/bioskyddsprogram. Standarden finns tillgänglig för alla och är kostnadsfri.
